We love Red Iguana and thought we would try the Blue Iguana. The service was severely lacking. We had to ask for a kids menu, had to ask for drinks and re-ask when one was forgotten. The restaurant was empty and while the food came quickly, we waited for a check and finally just went to the counter to pay. The food was mediocre at best, I assume that it was just all frozen and reheated, no real flavor. The margarita was good, but can you really mess up a margarita? Save your money for the Red Iguana. There is no need to waste time at this restaurant. I'm even disappointed that I had to give this place 1 star.

Pros: good margarita

Cons: hard to get to, service lacking

The food was OK. The Salsa's were hot, but not really the fresh kind I expected for such a highly rated mexican place. The Pork dish I had was not good, but the other more standard selections that the others had were fine. This was similar to a Chevy's or a mexican chain restaurant. I have found some Taquira places in Murray that were better.

Pros: Downtown

Cons: Nothing special here

I went to the Blue Iguana a little while ago because I'd received a gift certificate. I frequent the Red Iguana a lot and hoped the Blue Iguana would be just as good. It wasn't even close. Very average forgettable food, nothing near the quality of the Red Iguana. Wouldn't bother going here again, there are a lot of Mexican restaurants out there with better food that aren't as much of a hassle to go to .

Pros: The building was kind of cool.

Cons: Very average food, not near as good as Red Iguana

I always enjoy my trips to the Blue Iguana when I'm able to find a buy-one-get-one-free coupon in the paper. The food at the Blue Iguana is almost as good as the food at the Red Iguana, and there is always a significantly shorter wait for a table. The ambience is a little bit nicer than the Red Iguana, but the service has always been poorer in my experience. Waiters will never separate checks, and they won't accept multiple cards for payment. Not usually a huge issue, but it makes it frustrating when you want to dine with larger groups of people or business associates. The chips and salsa are great, the Horchata sweet, the mole rich and complex. You'll be back for more!

Pros: Great Mexican Food

Cons: Won't separate checks/accept multiple cards for payment

Decent food, service, and atmosphere but go to Red Iguana if you are looking for really great Mexican food.

We found a coupon in the paper for "buy one get one free" and went to check it out. The food was good, the service was good, but do not ask them to split a check for you. We were so harrased about splitting a check for 4 people (they refused) that we will never go back. Why would you spend the money to put coupons in the paper only to make people mad and send them off to let everyone know what a bad experience it was?

When I first visited the Blue Iguana I was surprised to see a variety of Moles on the menu. I rarely see Mole on a restaurant menu, so I order it whenever I get the chance. Each time I have tried a different one at Blue Iguana I have been pleased. Not only is the food and service great, but you get to hear strolling guitar and singers. I love to surprise out of town visitors with Blue Iguana, because it is a dining experience not just a meal.

Pros: Charming location with excellent food

Cons: Lots of stairs for the less than mobile

My father showed me the comments on your website about how Blue Iguana has bad food and bad service. We are regular customers of Blue Iguana and love it. He said that I should put my experience on City Search since it is entirely different. I am 16 years old and have been going to Blue Iguana for about 9 years. During this time, I have taken a lot of my friends and their parents and they all love it. We have never experienced bad service. And, the food is never bland. My favorite is the chicken enchiladas with extra, extra cheese. Some of my friends would rather have American food and they like the fact that Blue Iguana has a kids menu with chicken fingers, French fries, mini-hamburgers, corn dogs and hot dogs. I eat American food sometimes too. It is way better than drive-through. Some of my friends are in my Spanish class at school and we like the fact that the staff will talk with us in Spanish and help us with pronunciation. Even the manager sometimes comes over and jokes with us in Spanish. One time my entire Spanish class went to lunch at Blue Iguana and everything was done in Spanish. We ordered in Spanish, talked with each other in Spanish and our teacher talked with us in Spanish. I learned a lot that day and would love to do it again. THE BLUE IGUANA ROCKS!

The restaurant was packed when we walked down the stairs to the front door. A couple of our group wanted to find somewhere else but the guy that suggested this place assured us it was well worth the wait. We waited about fifteen minutes before we were seated. We did not mind since were able to immediately purchase one of the best margaritas I have ever tasted. The host showed us to our table and helped us get seated comfortably, even moving the table and chairs around before he left. A staff member poured us glasses of water and put chips and salsa on the table just as we got seated. Drink orders were taken almost immediately and our order of guacomole came a few minutes later with our drinks. During the entire meal, our server was attentive and professional. I was very impressed with the high level of service, especially considering how packed the place was. Our food came out hot and timely. I had the Blue Iguana plate & others had enchalidas, tacos, etc. I tasted them all. This is undoubtedly the best Mexican food any of us have eaten. We all agreed that the sauces, cheeses, beans and rice were exceptional. The salsa was thick, flavorful and habit-forming. Our server brought us a mole sampler plate with black, red, yellow and brown moles swirled around in a pattern. I had not tried a mole but had heard of it. They were surprisingly delicious. One of our group had steak tips covered in a yellow mole and the taste blew me away. (I went back and had it the next day for lunch.) Several members of our group took some of their large portion back to the room. Every single member of that group ate at the Blue Iguana again before leaving town, most introducing it to others. It is an absolute gem to find here in the center of down town. No-chain food here. I live in Park City and don't usually come down to Salt Lake except for the OR convention twice a year. I will be coming down a lot more often unless a Blue Iguana opens in Park City.

Pros: Best food & Best margaritas ever.

Cons: Hard to find initially.

After living here 9 years now my husband and I finally broke down and traveled away from the comfort of our Draper Home to explore an oppportunity for "authentic" Mexican Food. We walked in on a Friday evening around 7PM and was offered a table right by the door and asked if it was okay? I stated that no, it wasnt and that this was our very first time at this restaurant. Things were rearranged and we were seated towards the back of the restaurant. Before the greeter could even seat us, the waitress/water runner was on us and had water poured almost immediately. I thought to my self that maybe the service would be awesome here and that all would be well. Well, that was shortlived so I went on to deciding on which item to order. I chose the combo fajitas. Bad choice! They came out sizzling but from then on, the food was awful and bland. Honestly, that could have been tolerated except taht my husbands food was just as bland as ours. To get a refill on my "bottomless" soda; I had to ask for every refill. Attention was not given to us or to our taste buds. Not a good exerience at all; Where is the Southern Hospitatility???? That's what I would love to instill in the UT market.

Pros: When you get up to Leave

Cons: Parking, Being given the sense that you are overstaying your welcome when all you want is a refill on the "bottomless " dog
