Spencer's is the only outstanding steakhouse in Salt Lake City!!!!! The steaks are USDA PRIME from the stockyards of Chicago, the marbling and tenderness of the meat is excellent. The only steaks to get there are the BONE-IN steaks. The only server to get there is kevin B.. he is terrific he knows everything there is to know about the menu and exactly what to order. The wine list is the best in Salt Lake and the wine glasses are crystal. Jerry is a nationally known bartender who will give you the best suggestion for an after dinner drink. If you want to treat yourself right then go to Spencer's get a drink from jerry, request kevin B. as your server, order a bottle of wine from Louie, and indulge in the chocolate naughty cake. Best time ever in Salt Lake!!!!!!!!

Pros: BEST BARTENDER JERRY, BEST SERVER KEVIN B, BEST BONE-IN STEAKS.

Cons: ITS A PRETTY PENNY BUT WORTH EVERYONE!

I have eaten at great steak restaurants across the USA and internationally. I would rank Spencer's in SLC in my top three picks in this area every time. I almost always do the shrimp or crab for starters and it is always fresh and has a nice clean taste to it. The Kansas City cut is my favorite steak on the menu, the sides are delicious (you cannot go wrong with any of the potato dishes, and steak tomatoes are a must if you like a nice fresh side with your steak). Servers are professional and very nice. If you are new to the restaurant they will take the time to walk you though the menu, and even though I have only been there 1/2 dozen times in the last two years I am always thanked for eating there again when I arrive. The bar and drinks are average. The meat has a well rounded taste that is superior, and my steak has always arrived at the right temperature and color for what I have ordered. It is a quiet relaxed atmosphere where you are given time to eat your meal and enjoy the dinner. If you are in SLC or surrounding areas and are looking for a fine steak dinner go to Spencers. It is better than any other place in town, and ranks up there with Peter Lugers for food quality, and bests any of the chains like Ruth Chris or Smith & Wolinsky in every area.

Pros: Great cuts of meat, a nice relaxed dining experience

Dined 10-12-07 had a reservation for the early hour of 6 PM. as mentioned before the reception person after finding our reservation, ignored us (we were the only ones there), chatted with another waitperson until I loudly said that we were going to Ruth's Crist. Then a manager type hurried over and gave the usual spiel--best steakhouse etc. Then we were seated and the ensuing wait service was excellent. Ordered Caeser salad--was not a CS --requested anchovies on it--anchovies gritty and gristly from sitng in the open too long. Appetizer very good. We ordered NY strip and Filet mignon. Waiter inquired if we wanted crab and lobster on it! We split two half veggies even then the portions were huge. Meat was cooked in a device at maybe 1000 degrees leaving surface "caramelized"--a bit like a large Baby Ruth, However degree of done-ness was right on and the flavorwas superb. Will sample other steakhouses in SLC before we try again.

Pros: good tasty steak

Cons: cannot decide if it is a restaurent or the Hilton Cofee Shop

I expect decent service, good food and a little ambience for $100 for dinner for two. What did I get at Spencer's? Bad attitude from the arrogant manager, Nick, a crappy table, and poorly prepared food. If you're going to charge what these guys do, you'd better back it up with something more than expensive prices. Fleming's was much better than this and even Ruth's Chris is a better option than Spencer's when you want to spend some serious money on dinner.

Pros: Nice wood trim

Cons: Bad Manager & Expensive Food

From the stuffed Portobello appetizer to the most flavorful ribeye, through to the apple pie it was a great experience and I highly recommend, although not for the penny-pincher.

Pros: service, winelist and of course the Prime beef

Cons: small cocktails

I just had dinner at spencers with my spouse expecting it to be the best in SLC. As we walked in to be seated, the hostesses were goofing off and flirting with some guy, so we had to wait until they were finished before they seated us. Next our waiter came and talked too much about how broiling the steak is better than grilling, and what great quality their steak is. We ordered the shrimp and oysters to start out, the shimp was terrible. Once we made our dinner choices, our waiter had to correct us not to order the prime rib because the use only choice grade meat. So we took his advice and ordered the NY strip, and a ribeye. The Steaks were VERY AVERAGE, absolutely nothing special here. We also ordered The cheese hash, and asparagus for sides, also nothing special at all. We then asked for a dessert menu and were told we needed to wait, they'd tell us about the dessert menu once they had a chance, we waited about 10 minutes. That was when we asked for our bill. The service at Spencer's was So terrible we just wanted out of there. This was the worst steakhouse we had ever been too. The past couple of nights we've dined at Bambara, and Ruth's Chris in SLC, Both with Outstanding service, and great food. We left Spencer's VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!! Pro's-Nothing Con's- Average food, Bad service, Not worth it!!!!

I have enjoyed many trips to Spencers over the last few years with friends and family and would whole heartedly recommend any steak lover to give the restaurant an evening of their time. I am quite surprised by some of the other negative reviews here, every meal at Spencers has been a wonderful experience for myself. The interior is classic American steakhouse. Subdued lighting, dark wood panneling and crisp white tablecloths. The front section of the restaurant used to also allow cigar smokers the opportunity to light up, but I believe they have since become fully non smoking. Service is impeccable. If it's your first time the wait staff are more than happy to go into detail about their steak, cooking methods and side dishes. Want your steak butterflied, blackened or maybe served au poivre, no problem. The wait staff are only too happy to accomodate your needs. The variety of prime aged beef on offer is impressive and more often than not features some specials. On my last couple of visits I had the option of trying a bone in filet. I have yet to try this but maybe one day. Most steaks come in at around the $25-$35 mark but the bone in was priced closer to a wallet busting $80. There is also chicken, pork and selection of seafood with the obligatory lobster and crab legs. Sides are served ala carte and come family size, so do be careful and ask your server when you order. One side is typically plenty to feed several people. An extensive wine list is available and again the staff are only too happy to advise on selections to accompany your meal. There are many decent selections by the glass and bottle. Spencers can be a little on the pricey side, especially if you enjoy a full meal of appetizer, entree, dessert and wine. As such Spencers has become an ideal special occasion restaurant for us and perhaps that's a good idea. Left to a few times per year we can splurge on some great decadent food in a warm comfortable environment.

Pros: Steak, service, ambience

Cons: Touch pricey

I first heard about Spencer's in an in-flight magazine on Delta where the Salt Lake location was rated in the top ten in the nation. I gave it a try and was extremely surprised by how underwhelmed I was. It made much sense later when I discovered the "top ten" list was simply an advertisement the companies paid to be on. This made me feel much better about life. If you want to go somewhere and impress whoever you're with about the amount of money you're spending I would recommend Spencer's, if you want them to be impressed with the food then don't go anywhere near Spencer's. The meat is certified Prime but oddly lacks any flavor, could they be cheating and not using the beef they claim to? I highly doubt it, but then again I wouldn't think anyone would pay to be listed on a top ten list either.

Pros: Attentive Service

Cons: Overpriced, Prime Steaks lack flavor

A little expensive, especially for a restaurant in a hotel, but worth it!

Pros: Steak, Steak, Steak

Cons: Prices, Hotel Restaurant

Because the bar allows cigar smoking and cocktails without food, Spencer's has to function as a private club. You'll have to pay a cover charge or a yearly membership fee.
